IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT MOURNS PASSING OF KNUT

AT FOUR YEARS OF AGE

First Raised-in-Captivity Polar Bear is Subject of Acclaimed Film

CHATSWORTH, CA -- Knut, the world-famous polar bear and most celebrated resident of the Berlin Zoological Garden, passed away unexpectedly over the weekend as 600 tourists and visitors looked on in shock. The cuddly bear, rejected by his mother at birth, was lovingly raised by workers at the zoo and skyrocketed to world recognition when he made the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. Knut made his big screen debut in the German film Knut und seine Freunde (Knut and His Friends), which had its world premiere in Berlin in March of 2008. Directed by Michael Johnson, the film tells the story of how Knut was rescued after his mother abandoned him and workers in Berlin triumphed over all obstacles to raise the cub in captivity without a mother. The film is available on DVD and Blu-ray from Image Entertainment.

The film is appropriate for all ages and is Dove family-approved. Knut, having appeared twice on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine (once with Leonardo DiCaprio and photographed by Annie Leibovitz) was named the official mascot for endangered species. His debut at the Berlin Zoo was covered by 400 international journalists, all lured to Berlin by an amazing story of survival.
